Welcome to SeaBreeze Charter and Sailing School
Welcome to SeaBreeze Charter, LLC and SeaBreeze Sailing School, LLC located at Monroe Harbor, where quality sailing instruction becomes affordable and is not just for a select few. With no club memberships or seasonal commitments, your instruction is just what you really need: excellent instruction and the ability to use your skills independently. As an affiliate of The American Sailing Association, our courses offer certifications that are recognized around the world, allowing you to sail confidently and independently in a variety of locations.
SeaBreeze Sailing School Instructors are certified by the ASA and are USCG licensed captains with years of sailing experience, providing instruction based on the standards of the American Sailing Association, the first unified standards program in the U.S. The SeaBreeze Sailing School Instruction Program is geared toward giving each student the opportunity to gain skills, knowledge, and confidence on the waters of Lake Michigan and the Caribbean, through step by step instruction.
It is SeaBreeze Sailing School’s goal to have every student find success through instruction! Whether it is in boat handling or gaining personal confidence, each student will have the opportunity to state their goals, allowing him/her to measure their success upon completion. Each student is treated as an individual, and different teaching methods are explored in areas of student weakness. Additional practice sailing time is available throughout the week, if needed, for a nominal fee.
Courses are set to standards based on ASA standards, and every student will be measured against them. At successful completion of these standards, both written and practical, the student will receive a certification that qualifies them to handle a vessel on their own. Seabreeze Sailing School offers unique classes in the Chicago sailing community. Check out our Family Instruction Program, Women’s Programs, and Night Sailing on our class offerings page.
The 2014 season is a time for growth! At Seabreeze Charter, we will be adding more classroom instruction, more boats, and more certifications! ASA Coastal Navigation (105) certification, Decorative Knots, and Splicing classes will be added to the classroom courses, and offered throughout the year. Our Basic Keelboat (101) certification and Coastal Cruising (103) certification courses will be taught on our 26' keelboat Lelu, and our new Bareboat Chartering (104) certification course will be taught on a 36' Beneteau Bliss. Qualified students will now have the option of independent sailing on both vessels, offering flexibility in your chartering needs. We are adding an on water Nautical Night class, as well, that covers navigation after sunset and the challenges it brings.
Our newest addition is our Caribbean Instruction Program! NOW ACCEPTING RESERVATIONS!! Join us for a week in the Virgin Islands as you learn to sail while living aboard a 42'45' sailing vessel. This course prepares all skill levels for chartering abroad! At the end of the week, qualified sailors have earned the ASA 101, 103, 104 certifications, while vacationing in one of the greatest sailing destinations in the worlds. Days are filled with sailing, snorkeling, and swimming, and nights include local fare and music, or just relaxing on the boat. We visit a different port each night! Call Seabreeze Charter for more rates and dates!
New this year is our ASA Coastal Navigation Course (105). Based on the standards of the American Sailing Association, it covers reading nautical charts, dead reckoning, taking bearings and fixes, making course corrections, and rules of the road. This is a thorough classroom navigation course! Students who complete the Coastal Navigation (105) and Coastal Cruising (103) Courses will qualify for a two day sail to a neighboring port, using your newfound sailing and navigation skills.
